Emily Brent is an elderly, religious woman who reads the bible every day. She is accused of driving  Beatrice Taylor, one of her servants, to committing suicde based on the fact that she became pregnant before marriage. Emily feels no remorse for her actions, and is a bitter old lady. Throughout the book she witholds a cold, and upheld persona. She is eventually murdered from injection of potassium cyanide in the back of the neck.
